LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis is staying put after drawing interest from Georgia for the Bulldogs' vacant coordinator position. Chavis joined head coach Les Miles' staff last January following 14 seasons as defensive coordinator at Tennessee. LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said in a statement Thursday it was important for the program's future to invest in Chavis.

John Chavis, who was being pursued by the University of Georgia, will remain at LSU as the defensive coordinator, Coach Les Miles announced today. In his first year with the Tigers, Chavis coached an LSU defense that rated No. 3 in the SEC and No. 12 in the nation in scoring at 16.0 points per game.
